Mother Jessica Greatorex, 22, arrested over the death of daughter Hayley’s death near Newcastle NSW

A mother arrested over her 20-month-old daughter’s death gave a chilling interview about the tragedy just a week ago.

Jessica Greatorex, 22, was arrested at a home in Tarro, northern New South Wales, early on Friday morning, two months after her daughter Hayley Rose’s death.

Little Hayley Rose was found with a series of horrific injuries including internal trauma.

Her mother is now expected to be charged with the manslaughter of the 20-month-old.

A week before the shock arrest, Greatorex spoke about the supposed impact of the tragedy, saying Hayley simply ‘went down for a sleep and never woke up’.

‘(She was) a beautiful, happy, bubbly toddler – she always had a smile on her face,’ Greatorex told Nine News.

Dodging eye contact with the camera, she also recounted her apparent mad-dash to the hospital as paramedics attempted to resuscitate her daughter.

‘I was in another ambulance behind her and not long after getting there, I was then told (Hayley) didn’t make it,’ Greatorex revealed.

At the time of the interview last week, Greatorex’s ex-boyfriend Timothy Whiteley, 26, had been charged with the girl’s murder following her gruesome death.

It followed emergency crews being called to the house in the Hunter region on June 19 after reports a 20-month-old girl was in cardiac arrest.

Hayley Rose, was rushed to John Hunter Hospital with her mother, Jessica Greatorex, riding in the ambulance behind her but was unable to be revived.

He was taken to Raymond Terrace Police Station where he was charged with murder.

Detective Wayne Wolpole, who led the investigation into the man’s arrest, had come after a special task force was set up to investigate the young girl’s death.
