  • She will face court for failing to provide for the child and endangering her life
  • 23-year-old was initially let go by cops who charged her partner, 47, with murder

The mother of a nine-month-old girl who was allegedly sacrificed by her father has been charged over the infant’s death.

The baby was allegedly thrown into the water near Tweed Heads, on the border of NSW and Queensland, and was found at Surfers Paradise soon after, where she was declared dead at the scene.

Police interviewed both parents at the time, choosing to charge the father, 47, with murder and provide psychiatric care to the mother, 23, but on Thursday, the mother was charged with failing to provide for her child, causing a danger of death.

She appeared at Southport Magistrates Court, where her extradition to NSW was granted, and has been refused bail ahead of another hearing at Byron Bay Local Court on Friday.

Investigations into the death are continuing.

More to come.
