Mother-of-three shares her incredible transformation after losing 40 kilos in EIGHT months

A mother-of-three who mended her ‘bad relationship’ with food has gone on to lose 40 kilos in eight months, completely transforming her body and self esteem in the process.

Megan Lockhart, 27, decided to slim down her 102 kilo frame after giving birth a third time in 2018 and has maintained her goal weight of 62 kilos for more than a year.

‘I comfort ate my way to obesity and then when my husband and I wanted to start a family I lost weight in a horrible way,’ the Queensland-based woman said.

‘I cut out a lot of calories from my diet and developed some unhealthy habits around not eating which I still struggle with today, although I’m slowly overcoming my disordered eating.’

She started following The Healthy Mummy blog and recipes after her first son was born in 2016, managing to lose 20 kilos by following its principals of moderated eating and daily exercise.

But when she got pregnant a second time, this time with a baby girl, she began to ‘stress eat’, believing something was wrong with the pregnancy. Sadly, her intuition was right.

‘Our second baby girl came into the world sleeping at 25 weeks gestation due to brain and heart abnormalities,’ she said.

'I found my focus on the Healthy Mummy once again and before I knew it six weeks after we said goodbye to our little girl I was pregnant again,' she said (pictured with her two sons)

Megan described her third pregnancy as ‘very difficult’ and she wasn’t able to maintain control over her food, ballooning to 102 kilos – just like all her other pregnancies.

But she was blessed with a second baby boy to complete their family and had no reservations about starting her weight loss journey again.

‘For breakfast I always start with a smoothie with fruit and usually oats in it, something to keep me full and keep me going,’ she told FEMAIL.

Morning tea is ‘always something sweet’ and could be homemade coconut Weetbix slice, chocolate high fibre brownies, raw lemon cheesecake, triple chocolate cheesecake or honey and oat slice.

This will normally be accompanied by a coffee, and if she’s feeling ‘extra hungry’, a piece of fruit as well.

‘For lunch I’ll usually refer to my Healthy Mummy app and see what’s easy to whip up in a short amount of time. Right now with it being so cold I’m loving toasted sandwiches or soups,’ she said.

‘Or I’ll go to my freezer stash and heat up a Healthy Mummy spinach and ricotta sausage roll and serve it with steamed vegetables.’

During the summer months Megan turns to salads as her go-to, but because we're approaching winter it's Chinese food like beef and black bean stew or sweet and sour chicken and vegetables with rice for dinner

Snacks can range from cherry tomatoes, carrots and cucumbers to cheese and nuts.

She would go walking each day when she was in the process of losing weight, or would do a light boxing class or home workouts in the living room.

‘Once I got to my goal weight I did cut back on the exercise a little bit. I go for walks or a run on my own now about three times a week and I do the Healthy Mummy exercises from the app every day,’ she said.

‘I also get out into the yard and run around with my boys more. I still eat the same as I did now when I was losing the weight, only now for maintenance I eat a bit more so I like to enjoy ice cream or a chocolate a few times a week.’

Megan has dropped from a size 18 to a size 10 and is enjoying life much more with her new body, and hopes her transformation will inspire others to take a leap of faith and mend their relationship with food.
