Mother-of-two left with a ‘cobra neck’ after a botched face lift

A mother-of-two had her ‘cobra neck’ fixed by plastic surgeons so strangers would stop calling her ‘grandma’.

Lisa, whose last name is not known, had gone under the knife for a face lift a few years ago – but the procedure failed and made her skin sag.

Lisa, who is in her fifties, first met her husband Paul – who’s 15 years her junior – when she was 37, and he was 22.

They had two daughters by surrogate, but although they never felt the age gap was an issue, others questioned if she was in fact the grandma to her girls.

Now, after being seen by Botched’s Dr Paul Nassif and Dr Terry Dubrow, she feels ten years younger with a smooth neck.

Lisa, in her mid-fifties, had gone under the knife for a face lift a few years ago but the procedure failed and made her skin sag around her jaw. She turned to Dr Terry Dubrow and Dr Paul Nassif as part of TV series Botched

Lisa and Paul, from Texas, got married eight years after meeting and have been together for almost a decade since.

Shortly after marrying, the couple found a surrogate to deliver their first child Madison in 2008, and their second, Marshall, in 2012.

After having Marshall, Lisa recalled more people asking her if she was the children’s grandmother instead.

She told Botched viewers: ‘It made me start looking at myself. I know I was old enough to be a grandmother but I didn’t want to look like a grandma.’

Lisa went to a plastic surgeon to see what he could do to correct her face.

She said: ‘He said a deep plane face lift is going to last you about 20 years and I thought, “that’s great, that way I can age out with Paul”.’

This type of face lift doesn’t pull the skin tight as a traditional one does. Instead, it works the tissue underneath.

After the surgery, things started to go downhill for Lisa straight away, as her face swelled around the chin and neck.

She said: ‘A week after surgery I could feel that things were pulling loose under my chin and as time went on it just kept falling more and more and then you could see the cobra neck.

‘My daughter said, “Mum, it looks like you neck is falling down”.’

Not only did the procedure fail to deliver what the surgeon had promised, but she felt like she looked older coming out of surgery than she did going in.

She demanded to know what had happened from her plastic surgeon, who said, ‘I didn’t do the full face lift cut, I just didn’t feel I needed to’.

Lisa said: ‘I thought he would’ve been more sympathetic towards me. But I guess he just didn’t want to admit he was wrong.’

By the time Lisa sat down with the Botched doctors, it looked like there was a chunk of flesh missing.

Dr Dubrow said: ‘Lisa really has an unfortunate result of a poorly executed operation.’

‘Lisa has what we call a cobra neck deformity,’ explained Dr Nassif. ‘Because all the tissue in the midline has been removed, and that’s the hollow part of it.’

Dr Nassif explained that the surgeon probably did too much aggressive liposuction in the area, and that he would need to inject some fat back in.

‘This is actually one of the most difficult things to correct after you’ve had surgery,’ warned Dr Dubrow.

Dr Nassif rose to the challenge like many times before in the final episode of the TV series, transforming Lisa’s face.

She told the cameras the procedure had ‘changed [her] life’.

‘Thanks to Dr Nassif, my neck is smooth, I look 10 years younger, I’m able to hold up high and stand with my kids as a proud mother. And as a proud wife of a man that’s 15 years younger.’

‘Say what you want, but I’m the one with the hot young husband!’

WHAT IS A DEEP PLANE FACE LIFT?

The traditional facelift can rely partially on skin tightening, which can still lead to that plastic appearance.

But the deep plane lift, on the other hand, maintains the skin and underlying tissues in alignment with each other, by detaching and repositioning the entire system as a single unit.

While the traditional lift, called the SMAS facelift relies on the tension of the pulled skin and muscle to produce the results, a deep plane procedure puts no such strain on the skin or muscle, instead simply adjusting the positioning of the facial tissue.

This gives a more permanent effect.

The results of a deep plane lift are subtler and more natural, allowing younger patients to stave off the effects of aging early on, rather than waiting to correct serious flaws after they have occurred.

This facelift can still be performed on an older patient who is seeking more dramatic results that can offer a refreshed and rejuvenated natural appearance, rather than the tight, ‘pulled’ look.
