Mother saves a fortune by transforming her ENTIRE bathroom using Kmart versions of designer decor

Rebecca Townsend, 32, a mother-of-one, transformed her entire bathroom for $800

Over the past year, savvy mothers have transformed rooms in their home using budget items and proudly shared the results online.

And now one Australian mother has wowed thousands after transforming her entire bathroom using Kmart, Aldi and eBay items – and it cost her just $800.

Rebecca Townsend, 32, a stay-at-home mother-of-one, used affordable versions of her favourite designer products and was able to create a bathroom oasis on a budget.

‘You don’t need to spend a lot these days to get the designer look, you just need to be savvy, wait for the specials and shop around,’ she told FEMAIL.

The nifty mum has been sharing her chic bathroom in various budget Facebook groups and has been praised for the perfectly organised, chic room.

The room is proof that people don’t need to spend lots of money to completely overhaul a space.

‘The bathroom is the only room we didn’t rip apart the moment we moved in, we just cleverly designed it on a budget with items mostly from Kmart to make it more designer,’ she explained.

One simple update her and her husband, a labourer, made was painting the ceiling and window a dramatic colour – they chose a bucket of $50 paint called Domino from Dulux.

They also replaced all the fixtures, such as the towel rails ($65), taps ($75), shower head ($260) and toilet roll holder ($30) with items from eBay for a more modern look.

Doing this saved them thousands, as it only cost them $450 in total.

The other purchase they made from eBay were black light switches for $30 as they wanted to replace the original ones to create a more chic look.

‘All decor was Kmart, aside from the black stool which was a special buy from Aldi for $69,’ she said.

The other items they bought from Kmart were the ladder ($29), the caddies ($15) which they painted black, the soap dispensers ($7), soap dish ($7) and towels ($10)

Ms Townsend’s tips

– Don’t be afraid of design, be bold and be brave

– Give any idea you may have a chance

– In a world where everything is disposable try up cycling and repurposing items

Ms Townsend said she has seen similar stools retail elsewhere for $400.

The mother-of-one said candles is where she usually spends a little bit more money and the one featured in the room cost $15 from Wild Heart Scents.

She said her and her husband are also fans of upcycling items or following popular Kmart ‘hacks’ to suit the decor, such as the caddies.

Her and her husband did a lot of the transformation while their baby was on home oxygen and was in and out of hospital.

‘After our son was born at 23 weeks gestation and spent 125 days in hospital, we bought this house when he was only seven months old and on home oxygen, but it didn’t deter us from creating a wonderful home to for him to grow up and into,’ she said.

‘Whatever challenges you may face, don’t put renovating off if it will provide you with happiness, if we can do it on a budget through all our ups and downs, you can too.’
