Mother sparks fiery debate online after posting photo of filthy table at Westfield shopping centre

A photo of a filthy table at a Westfield shopping centre playground has sparked a fiery online debate.

Lisa Barnard snapped the image – which shows dinner trays, leftover food, plastic containers and cutlery scattered over an outdoor table – at the North Lakes’ centre on the outskirts of Brisbane.

Angered by the ‘rude’ and ‘lazy’ diners, the mother took to the North Lakes Community Facebook page this week to vent her frustrations.

Ms Barnard said that she didn’t think it was too much to ask for people to tidy up after themselves, according to the Courier Mail.

‘If the person who left this sees this post I hope you are ashamed of yourself,’ she said.

‘I tidy my table wherever I am because that’s what respectful people do.’

Many members supported Ms Barnard’s view, with one saying that it represented a much wider problem in today’s society.

‘[There’s] a trend towards abdication of any social, ethical or moral responsibility,’ the person said.

Others called the diners who left the mess, ‘grubs’, ‘rude’ and ‘lazy’, but not everyone was in agreement.

Some agreed that the leftover rubbish was a 'lazy' act, while others said 'it's a fact of life' (pictured is Westfield North Lakes)

One member took a jab at Ms Barnard for taking a photo of the mess, but not bothering to clean it up herself.

‘…plenty of time to take a photo and write a post but 10 seconds it would have taken to clear it instead of rant about it. Some people are just too ‘precious’,’ the member argued.

‘Some people are careless and thoughtless. That’s life. Deal with it.’

Another person said it was the cleaner’s responsibility to clear the tables.

‘People are paid to clean, why take jobs away.’
