‘Bored’ mother ‘tries to smother her five-month-old son in Ukrainian hospital after his crying distracted her from boozing on vodka’

A ‘bored’ mother allegedly tried to smother her five-month-old son with a pillow for crying and distracting her from drinking vodka.
The 33-year-old woman, who has not been named, tried to kill her child at a children’s hospital in Odesa, a sea resort city in southern Ukraine.
Police say the woman was at the hospital with her son who needed inpatient treatment.
On the night of December 1, she was secretly drinking vodka after buying it in advance in a nearby store.
According to reports, the woman was in the middle of her drinking session when her son woke up and started crying.

Then the drunk mother covered the child with a pillow and pressed it against his face, a witness said.
A police spokesperson told local media: ‘The mother was drinking vodka right in the hospital ward near her 5-month-old baby.’
During a police interview, the mother said that ‘she drank vodka because she was bored’ and that ‘she became irritated after the baby woke up and distracted her’.
The police source added: ‘A woman who was occupying the same ward saw the suspect’s attempt to smother her son with a pillow.
‘The witness pushed the suspect away from the crib and alarmed the hospital staff who called the police.’

Police opened a criminal case for attempted murder of a minor against the woman who was arrested and taken into custody.
