An Australian motorcyclist has shared gruesome photos of his blood-splattered bike after he was hit in the face by an esky lid that fell from a trailer.

The biker also revealed his wounds in hospital after the lid of the cooler box struck him – leaving him with blood on his lip and down his neck.

The metal section at the front of the Harley-Davidson bicycle was almost entirely soaked in blood, which dripped down all the way to the pedals.

Wishing him a speedy recovery, they took the opportunity to warn other road users about securing their loads properly.

‘Always ensure your s**t is strapped down on your ute or trailer!’ a page administrator wrote.

‘Esky lid coming at you whilst riding doesn’t tickle. Hope you recover quickly bro.’

Other members of the group were also quick to offer words of support to the wounded biker, as well as hit out at the careless driver.

‘People just don’t think. Had one person empty an ash tray out once while riding,’ one person wrote.

Another said they themselves had had a near miss with a flying esky.

The penalty for driving with an unsecured load in New South Wales in $439, while those in Western Australia risk copping an on-the-spot $200 fine.
