Toddler dead and another child in hospital with serious injuries after fire rips through a shed

  • A toddler has died after a shed caught alight in north Tasmania on Wednesday
  • One other child was taken to hospital with serious injuries after the tragic blaze 
  • An adult was also taken to hospital but had non-life threatening injuries 

A toddler has died and another child is in hospital with serious injuries after a shed caught on fire. 

The structure was ‘fully alight’ by the time the Tasmania Fire Service and police arrived at the home on Verdun Street in Mowbray, Launceston at 1.30pm on Wednesday. 

A female adult was also taken to hospital and had non-life threatening injuries.

Tasmania Fire Service investigators will conduct an investigation to find out the cause behind the blaze and police will prepare a report for the coroner

But the child in hospital has life-threatening injuries from the blaze, while it is understood the children are not siblings. 

Tasmanian police did not say how the blaze ignited.

‘Our thoughts and condolences are with everyone affected,’ a police spokesperson said.
