Mozambique murder breakthrough: Father of Australian woman, 20, killed on African trip of a lifetime says four suspects have been named

The father of a young Australian woman killed in Africa claims that local police have named four potential suspects in relation to her death.

Melbourne man Paul Warren’s 20-year-old daughter Elly Rose Warren was found dead in a toilet block in Tofo Beach in Mozambique three years ago.

Mr Warren said local police had named four wanted suspects in relation to his daughter’s unsolved daughter after visiting the country to investigate her death.

The retired engineer told the Sun-Herald that ‘two locals and two foreigners’ were wanted for questioning, claiming Interpol was also involved in the murder case. 

Herald Sun was unable to verify those claims with Interpol and AFP.

Mr Warren arrived in the country in September offering a $15,000 reward for any new information on the case and met with detectives and analysts to shed light on the investigation which he said had been ‘botched beyond repair.’

He believed that his daughter’s crime scene had been tampered with and the body had been removed, losing important evidence in the investigation.

Local police recorded Ms Warren’s death as a drug overdose, but later autopsies revealed she had no drugs in her system.

Ms Warren died from sand asphyxiation and multiple facial injuries, and was found face down with her underwear around her knees covered in black sand.

Her body was never tested for semen and a rape kit was never completed.

The new details have given Mr Warren and his family hope that justice may finally be served.

Ms Warren had been in Mozambique for six weeks before her death, taking part in a diving conservation program called Underwater Africa.

She attended a party at a bar on the night she died before leaving alone, never making it back to her hostel.
