MPs furious at ‘sickening’ game ‘Brexit Royale’ which sees Britons fight to survive leaving the EU

A controversial video game called Brexit Royale which will feature MPs and civilians fighting to the death in an apocalyptic post-Brexit Britain has sparked fury among politicians.

The upcoming PS4 and Xbox One game will see contenders both scavenge for food supplies and fight to be the last one standing.

Players can choose their avatar from a range of options, including politicians Boris Johnson, Theresa May and Michael Gove.

Other options include ‘maddened civilians thirsty for blood’.

Indy developer Wave Studios announced the free-to-play Brexit Royale during the 2019 Gamescon held in Cologne, Germany, from August 20–24.

The Brexit-themed game has drawn severe criticism following last year’s tragic murder of West Yorkshire Labour MP Jo Cox.

‘After the death of Jo Cox, to see a game promoting violence to MPs due to Brexit is sickening,’ Croydon Central MP Sarah Jones told the Star.

‘Although we absolutely do not condone violence against MPs in real life, we have seen such interest in this game since teasing it,’ said a Wave Studios spokesperson.

‘[We] can only thank the politicians for helping to make the concept of Brexit Royale game so realistic.’

‘This is not specifically about civilians fighting politicians, it is a post-apocalyptic survival game with every man for themselves.’

‘Brexit has been a depressing, endless process that absolutely everyone is sick off, so we wanted to have fun with the concept by turning it into a Battle Royale game.’

WHICH CHARACTERS CAN YOU PICK?

Players can choose as their avatar either key politicians — such as Boris Johnson, Theresa May and Michael Gove — or ‘maddened civilians’.

The game will follow the Battle Royale format made popular by such games as Fortnite and PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds.

These combine the exploration and scavenging elements of survival games with a last-one-standing-wins deathmatch.

‘We’re confronted daily with the vision of our leaders in the grip of destructiveness, playing a real-life game of Battle Royale, aiming to be the last man or woman standing, as the UK feels a collective powerlessness,’ said Wave Studios.

‘No one has any idea how to resolve this mess — so we wanted to imagine a world in which everyone takes matters into their own hands, by breathing a bit of life into this whole sordid situation. Everyone loves a Battle Royale.’

These will include blue passports, leave and remain picket signs, water cannons and a Theresa May special — the wheat-firing crossbow.

Each character has its own class, with current PM Boris Johnson being a ‘Spin Doctor’.

Others including Lame Duck, Champagne Socialist, Botanist, Gammon, Campaigner, Guilty Liberal, Remoaner and Politically Apathetic.

WHAT VEHICLES WILL FEATURE?

‘In Brexit Royale, all bets are off as chaos descends upon the nation. All trade links have been shut off, the pound has plummeted into a meaningless currency, leaving the country marooned in a state of crisis,’ Wave Studios said.

‘As the politicians lose their grip, there’s only one way to settle things: the old fashioned way.’

Matching Britain’s divorce from the EU, Brexit Royale is slated for launch on the PS4 and Xbox One on October 31st, 2019 — with a full gameplay trailer planned for release on September 3.
