M&S recruits former Boohoo boss as clothing guru checks out

Marks & Spencer has named ex-Boohoo boss John Lyttle as head of its clothing, home and beauty divisions.

Managing director Richard Price will hand his position over to Lyttle at the end of April.

Lyttle, who quit fast fashion chain Boohoo in October 2024 after five years, said he ‘always wanted to work’ at M&S. Before Boohoo, he was chief operating officer at Primark.

Chief executive Stuart Machin credited Price with helping M&S shake off its reputation for dowdy fashion.

But he said there ‘remains much to do’. He suggested there would be changes to supply chain partnerships and logistics.

M&S revolutionised its clothing after years of drab collections – even featuring Sienna Miller in campaigns.

Trendy homeware also boosted sales. And it has started selling dozens of third-party brands – including Sweaty Betty and Reiss – to entice younger shoppers.

The renewed popularity of its clothes has boosted the share price and it returned to the FTSE 100 in September 2023 after four years.
