MSNBC host Kasie Hunt apologizes for Rand Paul remark

MSNBC’s Kasie Hunt has apologized for apparently gloating over an attack that left Republican Senator Rand Paul hospitalized.

Speaking last week, Hunt, 32, introduced the November 20 headline by remarking: ‘This might be one of my favorite stories, although we don’t–‘

She then took a deep breath and stumbled over her words before pressing on with the report, which claimed that Paul had been left with six broken ribs by his neighbor in a dispute over gardening methods.

But soon after she tweeted an apology, saying there was ‘nothing funny’ about the attack, which ultimately left the senator with pneumonia.

‘There’s nothing funny about 6 broken ribs — my apologies to @RandPauI for suggesting on air earlier today there was,’ Hunt tweeted shortly after her remark.

‘Hope your recovery is on the right track, senator, looking forward to seeing you in the hallways soon.’

Paul was reportedly attacked by his neighbor while mowing his lawn on November 3.

The alleged assault left him with six ribs broken, three displaced, a build-up of fluid inside the lung and pneumonia.

In an op-ed piece on CNN, his wife, Kelley Paul, excoriated the media for what she said were ‘hateful headlines’ that ‘gleefully’ attempted to blame Rand for the incident.

”The fact is, neither Rand nor I have spoken to the attacker in 10 years (since before his wife and children moved away) other than a casual wave from the car,’ she wrote.

Paul was struck from behind by neighbor Rene Boucher, his wife said.

‘The only “dispute” existed solely in the attacker’s troubled mind, until, on a beautiful autumn day, he ran down the hill on our property and slammed his body into Rand’s lower back as he stood facing away, wearing noise canceling headphones to protect his ears from the lawnmower,’ she wrote.

Boucher, 59, was charged with misdemeanor assault in the alleged attack, which Kelley said was due to a ‘landscaping dispute’.

Hunt reported at the time that Boucher was incensed that Paul had sprayed grass cuttings onto his lawn, and that Paul’s grass was a different length to his own.

Paul has since returned to work in the Senate.
