A mum has divided the internet with her ‘helpful’ grocery shopping hack – and she promises it means you’ll never forget your green reusable shopping bags again.

The Australian woman, called Kelly, posted on Facebook where she said she keeps a few collapsible crates from Kmart in the back of her car.

She then takes the crates into the supermarket and fills them with groceries before unpacking them at home and putting the crates straight back in the boot before she forgets about them.

‘I was sick of always forgetting my green bags and refusing to buy new ones because I have a cupboard full of them at home, so I found these collapsible crates from Kmart,’ Kelly wrote on Facebook.

‘Only $7.99 each. They collapse flat, so are perfect for keeping in my boot.

‘I do a lot of my shopping at Aldi, so after everything is scanned, I head straight to my car, sort my groceries in my crates and when I get home I just carry the crates into the house to empty them out and return them straight to my car again.’

Kelly added: ‘It really works for me and I hope someone else finds it helpful too!’

While many were quick to praise the mum’s ‘ingenious’ idea, others were quick to point out that remembering to put crates back in the car was just as hard as remembering your green bags and so it might be a bit ‘pointless’.

‘Anyone else thinking great idea but I’d most likely end up not putting the crates back in either,’ one commenter posted.

‘Great idea! But couldn’t you do the same with the green bags too, ie return them back to the car?’ another added.

Some said they loved the idea, because crates are harder to forget about:

‘I prefer the idea of crates over bags, our pantry is absolutely filled with bags because we forget them. I feel like because the crates are so big, you can’t miss them or forget them,’ one commenter posted.

Another said: ‘Great post! Just an idea for those who want to be environmentally friendly (I use this over plastic crates), you can also use those cardboard mango crates to store groceries’.

A third added: ‘This would be handy for camping as well… great idea’.
