Mum Kaitlin Klimmer: ‘This may be unpopular opinion, but this is the perfect age gap between kids’

Mum divides after sharing her ‘unpopular opinion’ on what she thinks is the ‘perfect age gap between kids’

  • A mum said the ‘perfect age gap’ between kids is four years as they can help
  • Many disagreed and said having children closer in age means they are friends

A mum has divided thousands after revealing she believes the ‘perfect’ age gap between children is four years.

The American mother, Kaitlin Klimmer, shared a video on TikTok, where she said while she wouldn’t always have thought it, ‘two under two just ain’t for me’.

Instead, she has a four year age gap between her first and second baby, and Kaitlin said she would now choose it ‘every time’.

‘Okay, unpopular opinion, but having a four-year age gap between your kids is the best,’ Kaitlin said in the clip.

‘When I was trying to get pregnant with my second, we had three miscarriages and I was getting so anxious about the growing age gap between them.’

But, Kaitlin said that now they are ‘on the other side of that’, she thinks the ‘four-year age gap is unreal and I would choose it every time’.

‘For example, I just finished putting my 16-month-old down for a nap and we always lie with our kids until they’re asleep,’ Kaitlin said.

‘So I was lying with her and I fell asleep also, I woke up 20 minutes later just not at all concerned about what my five-year-old was up to.

‘Like, she’s five? She can hang out for half an hour by herself.’

She said when she went in to check on her daughter and said ‘sorry that took so long’, her daughter was ‘just making her birthday invitations for her birthday… that’s in August’.

‘It’s just so nice,’ Kaitlin concluded.

It wasn’t long before more than 200,000 people watched the video and offered their own opinions on age gaps, with many disagreeing with Kaitlin.

‘Only good for the parents. Once [your kids] are a little older they are like built-in best friends, that was my experience with two boys 20 months apart,’ one person wrote.

Another added: ‘As a kid with a sibling with a four-year age gap, I completely disagree with you. My sister and I were never close growing up and aren’t close at all as adults’.

But not everyone disagreed with Kaitlin.

‘I don’t think an age gap determines how close siblings will be. It’s personality, communication, how well the entire family gets along,’ one person wrote.

While a second said: ‘People worry about them not being friends if they’re farther apart but my sisters are six and 11 years older than me and are my BEST friends’.
