The 21-year-old was driven to Hawker in the Flinders Ranges where she was murdered and buried in a shallow grave by 23-year-old Tarikjot Singh.

Singh initially denied killing the nursing student but in February pleaded guilty to the murder before he was due to stand trial.

The mother’s powerful victim impact statement was read to the court during the sentencing submissions in the case.

In her statement, Ms Kaur said she will never forgive Singh for taking her ‘precious little girl’ and discarding her like ‘rubbish’.

‘She spent her last hour on this earth with the very worst of humanity,’ Ms Kaur said in the statement read by a prosecutor.

‘How could he value a life so cheaply? I’m incandescent with rage … You treated my daughter as if she were nothing and disposed of her as rubbish.’

Ms Kaur claimed Singh was obsessed with Jasmeen and and tried to forcefully marry her but her daughter rejected his advances hundreds of times.

Ms Kaur detailed the torment she endures knowing that her daughter’s last hour on earth was filled with brutality and terror.

‘In her last hours, she was faced with brutality and terror … alone with someone intent on doing her harm,’ Kaur said.

‘I cling on to memories of Jasmeen, I hold them tight to keep them safe.’

The young woman’s grief-stricken brother, sister and aunt also gave victim impact statements to the court.

Jasmeen’s aunt told the court her niece was planning to visit India for the first time in three years for a family reunion before she was brutally killed.

The court ordered psychological reports of Singh ahead of sentencing.

The sentencing submissions were adjourned with Singh scheduled to face court again in July.
