An Aussie mum-of-two says she feels closer than ever with her partner after he was thrown in jail.

Caity Phelan, 23, was devastated when her partner Dayne, 25, was incarcerated 700km away for seven months after making a ‘bad decision’.

But the young eyelash technician from Mackay, Queensland, stood by her partner and made their relationship work – and now they’re stronger than ever.

The couple had only been dating for seven months when the incident occurred, leaving Caity completely ‘shattered’.

‘As his partner I naturally want to support him through any obstacles in life. I stuck by him because I want to contribute in helping him in his rehabilitation to becoming a better person,’ she told news.com.au.

During his time behind bars, Caity could only see Dayne once or twice a month and would drive 16 hour round-trips for just a one-hour visit.

The pair would also have virtual conversations to catch up and see each other.

‘It is very true when they say you don’t know what you have until it’s gone. It’s allowed us to express our thoughts better because he has all the time in the world to think in there,’ Caity said.

At the time she also was pressured by others to leave Dayne but never considered it for a second.

Caity said being the girlfriend or wife to someone who has gone to prison takes courage and resilience and ‘isn’t for everyone’.

She added that the whole experience has opened their eyes to show just how much they love each other.
