A mother-of-four has shared how she made an affordable five-ingredient creamy bacon carbonara dish to feed her family on a strict budget.

The single mum posted images to an Australian Facebook group explaining how she had less money than usual to spend at the supermarket and had to find a suitable dinner plan.

‘I didn’t have a lot of money this week for groceries, so the kids and I shopped from the fridges and freezers first and made a good dinner plan for the week with what we have and the $110.53 spent at Coles,’ she said.

‘Fed two little kids, two big kids with adult sized hunger, myself, and two lunches for the big kids for school – total cost $10.80 (that is from what I purchased this week),’ she explained.

She said for five people the meals total to $2.16 per serve, which was ideal for her low-budget plan.

‘Try adding three egg yolks, chicken stock and cheese to the cream. Then add it into the pan!’ one said
