The first step is washing your linen.

‘Add a gentle liquid detergent to the drawer and half a cup of baking soda to the drum,’ Chantel said on TikTok.

Baking soda helps to regulate the pH level in the washing machine’s water by keeping it from being to acidic or alkaline.

By adding half a cup of baking soda to every laundry load, detergents can work more effectively to reduce bacteria.

Eucalyptus oil is brilliant for removing oily stains, as well as freshening and deodorising your laundry.

Water soluble eucalyptus oil can even be used to lift stubborn stains left by chewing gum, lipstick or grease.

‘Finally, dry your whites in the direct sunlight and colours in the shade,’ Chantel said.

Not only is the sun a natural way to whiten your white laundry, but it can also disinfect your clothes too.

It does so by killing any bacteria that might not have been washed away during the washing cycle.

As well as this, the ultraviolet rays of sunlight help to bleach and disinfect laundry which is particularly beneficial for white sheets and towels.
