Mum transforms Kmart’s $15 bookshelf into a stunning dollhouse

A savvy mum has revealed how she transformed a Kmart bookshelf into a stunning bohemian-Scandinavia themed dollhouse.

Donna Parker, from Wollongong’s Tarrawanna in NSW, created the ultimate doll’s house, complete with tiny bedrooms, miniature furniture and an outdoor setting.

The 47-year-old aged care worker purchased two wooden cube units from the retail discount chain for just $15 each.

From there, she transformed the empty bookshelves into a boho chic-inspired toy home, with the process taking two weeks, costing her $120 altogether.

Replicating a real life modern property, the abode features trendy ornaments in every space, including photo frames, artworks, plants, mirror, interior lighting and even stylish rugs.

‘All my late nights of gluing have finally paid off,’ Donna told Daily Mail Australia.

‘It took me a total of two weeks, I would just play around for a couple of hours most nights. I love it – it was so much fun and not as frustrating as I thought it would be.’

The rooftop boasts an outdoor entertainment area, including a barbecue, a swing set, a dining area and a beautiful garden.

Astonishingly, Donna said she simply used two bookshelves to create the dollhouse for her 22-month-old nephew Lachlan to play with.

‘I glued the two bookshelves together and bought the materials from Spotlight and I made most of the furniture from scratch from thin pieces of craft wood,’ she said.

‘There’s a lot of the little bits and bobs I picked up from the bargain shops. I spent about $120 on all the items including the book case which are $15 each.

‘The fake grass that makes the garden rooftop I picked up for $2 at an op shop. The bathroom, toilet and the bathtub came in a pack for $8 from Kmart.

She got all her home ideas and inspiration from online and of course – Kmart.

‘I got my inspiration from just looking through Pinterest and I love Kmart,’ she said.

‘My little nephew loves to play with my little fairy garden that I make so I thought he would love to play around with this and he does.’

‘This doll house looks better than my own house,’ one woman wrote.

Another added: ‘This is beyond incredible. Truly such talent – I wish I had the imagination and creativity to make something so gorgeous and unique.’

One posted: ‘Amazing! I actually thought this was your house (doh) not a doll’s house!’

And another chimed in: ‘This little house is better styled than mine.’

Donna told Daily Mail Australia: ‘I can’t believe the response I have had. I have already got three orders from some lovely ladies who want to order some.’
