Mumsnet tips to looking younger without spending a fortune

Women around the world live in hope of discovering the anti-ageing miracle cream that will turn back the clock on ageing.

But these middle-aged women claim staying wrinkle-free does not require any space age lotion or potion and is far simpler than you might think.

Dozens of mothers took to Mumsnet to share their tips on how to stay looking young after one image-conscious user asked for advice.

The response from more than 100 women shows that sometimes less really is more, with many favouring warm water over any fancy face wash and others claiming the secret is to keep make-up to a minimum.

Keep it simple: More than 100 middle-aged mothers shared their secrets on how they keep their skin looking youthful, with many swearing by a very basic skin care routine

Appealing to ‘those over 35 with good skin’, the concerned user wrote: ‘I just wondered what your skin regime was? If you do have one?…

‘I am only 27 but trying to look after my skin (slightly paranoid actually haha) so been using a spf moisturiser most days.

‘I have a few lines on my forehead (I’m not sure whether these are expression lines or age related) and I struggle with dark circles under my eyes.’

While many women might think that expensive products are the secret to ever-lasting youth, most of the respondents maintain a very simple skincare routine.

One posted: ‘I am another one with good skin who doesn’t wear make up often (on rare nights out). I wash with water and sometimes a baby wipe. I use moisturiser and always have – but no specific one just whatever I can afford.’

Another added: ‘I never wear make up, at all. I wash mostly with water or with very mild natural products.’

Many women credited sun protection with helping them look younger than their years.

‘The biggest thing you can do is wear suncream every day and avoid the sun to protect against UV light exposure,’ one woman shared.

Another mother revealed: ‘I always say it’s because I’ve never had a “lie in the sun” holiday and now I use spf 50 on my face and chest every day. Even in winter.’

However some of the women confessed they were simply lucky to be blessed with good genes.

One wrote: ‘Genes must play a part though, my mum’s nearly 80, smoked, and sun-worshipped and her skins still mostly unlined and plump and fresh looking.’

Another shared: ‘I believe it is a combination of good genes and not faffing around with my skin. I only wear makeup about 30 per cent of the time and don’t really have a skincare regime.’
