Musician Dan Sultan discusses going to rehab after falling over on stage ‘drunk’

Dan Sultan has revealed that he attended a rehab facility after a disastrous concert in Cairns in June.

The indie musician apologised for his ‘disrespectful’ behaviour at the time, after infuriating fans over a bizarre performance of the Britney Spears hit single Baby One More Time.

Speaking to the Sydney Morning Herald on Friday, the 34-year-old says that he was ‘drunk’ during the performance and realised he needed help.

‘I was out of it, drunk on stage. It kind of snuck up on me a bit, a lot. It was pretty full on, a very big wake-up call and very embarrassing,’ he told the paper.

The Under Your Skin hitmaker added: ‘A lot of stuff was going on and I just had to stop.’

Dan reveals he underwent a month of outpatient treatment, as well as adding regular exercise and boxing training to his routine.

‘I went to a place for a month, every day for rehab. I stayed at home and got up every morning and went there and came home at night, which was really good,’ he says.

Concerns were raised for the singer-songwriter after he ‘fell off a stool’, according to a concert-goer, while performing a rendition of Baby One More Time in June.

After fan anger, the star took to social media to issue an apology for his out-of-character behaviour during the concert at Queensland’s Tanks Arts Centre.

‘I want to apologise to all of my fans, particularly those who were at the Cairns show on Saturday night. My behaviour was inexcusable and disrespectful,’ he wrote at the time.

The Hold It Together singer went on to explain that he is seeking professional help for a ‘personal situation’.

‘I’d also like to extend an apology to the staff at Tanks Arts Centre for what occurred. I am taking stock of my personal situation and am seeking professional help,’ he said.
