Mystery surrounds sale of Kerri-Anne Kennerley’s Woollahra mansion

Mystery surrounds record-breaking sale of Kerri-Anne Kennerley’s Woollahra mansion as she lodges a $5.5million development proposal months after ‘selling for $22million’

All the headlines about the record-breaking sale of Kerri-Anne Kennerly’s Woollahra mansion last year now appear to be a bit premature.

The 67-year-old TV doyenne supposedly secured a buyer off-market in August for $22million in what was hailed as a new high for the upmarket eastern suburb.

But now there is a $5.5m development proposal for the 893sqm block lodged with Woollahra Council – and signing off on the papers as the owner is none other than Ms Kennerly herself.

Kennerley confirmed to The Australian the sale had taken place, but said the settlement was still in the works.

She has not yet moved out, and plans to stay in the house for a while.

Claiming to know little about the proposed changes to her longtime home – which includes demolition of outbuildings and a new pool – Kennerley explained: ‘They [the buyer] asked me to sign the application. That’s the way the system is set up.’

Kennerley said in August she planned to downsize from the property which she had shared with her late husband John.

John died in February 2019 at the age of 78, after a freak accident in 2016 left him wheelchair bound.

The former Studio 10 presenter was by John’s side when he passed away at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Sydney.

John is survived by two children from a previous marriage.

He had been left paralysed after falling from a balcony while taking photos of his wife at a golf tournament in Coffs Harbour, NSW, in March 2016.

He was airlifted to hospital with spinal-cord injuries. Doctors operated on his neck after it emerged he had fractured his C3 and C4 vertebrae.

John was put in an induced coma, spent six weeks in intensive care and had multiple operations. Doctors diagnosed him as an incomplete quadriplegic.
