Naomi Campbell commands attention at Louis Vuitton’s Menswear Paris Fashion Week show

Naomi Campbell ensured all eyes were on her as she arrived for Louis Vuitton’s Fall/ Winter 2022 menswear show held at the Le Carreau Temple for Paris Fashion Week on Thursday.

The supermodel, 51, showed off her style credentials as she hit the front row in a statement white floor length coat from the designer.

Naomi teamed the look with white ankle boots and oversized shades as she sat down to watch the show, which honoured the innovations of the late Virgil Abloh.

Ahead of the catwalk, Naomi couldn’t resist posing up a storm in her outfit for the cameras. She teamed the zip-up button down coat, which had multiple layers, with a gold chain necklace and diamond earrings.

The fashion maven styled her black locks in a poker straight parting and enhanced her age-defying beauty with a polished make-up look.

The mens collection paid tribute to Virgil, who died in November last year, at the age of 41, after a secret battle with cancer.

Virgil was the artistic director of Louis Vuitton’s menswear collection beginning in 2018, and was given increased creative responsibilities across the LVMH brand in early 2021.

The designer was inspired by surrealist painter Salvador Dali and used distinctive shapes and forms in the collection.

On Wednesday, Louis Vuitton teased the upcoming collection on Instagram and wrote: ‘Alternative realities. New leather goods from the next Men’s Collection by Virgil Abloh revisit familiar objects in imaginative ways.’

Virgil, who made history as Louis Vuitton’s first black artistic director, died in November last year after he had been privately battling a rare form of the disease called cardiac angiosarcoma. He was diagnosed with the condition in 2019.

‘We are all shocked by this terrible news, Virgil was not only a genius designer, a visionary, he was also a man with a beautiful soul and great wisdom,’ Louis Vuitton executive director Bernault Arnault said in a statement. ‘The LVMH family joins me in this moment of great sorrow and we are all thinking of his loved ones after the passing of their husband, their brother, their father or their friend.’

His designs were supported by the biggest names in fashion, including Kim Kardashian, Kanye West, Hailey Bieber, and sisters Bella and Gigi Hadid.

Italian fashion designer Donatella Versace was among many celebrities to pay tribute to Abloh on Sunday.

‘Virgil, I am lost for words,’ Versace said on Instagram. ‘The world has lost a fashion superstar. An innovator. A creator for the history books. I am thinking of all your loved ones on this tragic day.’

Born on September 30, 1980 in Chicago, the first generation Ghanaian-American Abloh was raised in Rockford, Illinois.

Although having no formal training as a designer, he learned from his mother who was a seamstress.

On the day he graduated from engineering school in 2003, Virgil met Kanye West and went on to meet his then-manager John Monopoly. He became a member of his creative team soon after.
