It was an eventful night in the Champions League, with both Liverpool and Tottenham securing their places in the last-16. 

Liverpool beat Napoli 1-0 courtesy of Mohamed Salah’s strike to finish second in Group C, while Lucas Moura was on target as Tottenham drew 1-1 away to Barcelona and secure the runners-up spot in Group B.

The final round of Champions League group games can be a tense time for supporters, but one Napoli fan took thing a little too far.

After Mohamed Salah put Liverpool in front at Anfield a Napoli supporter was seen crying in the away end despite it only being the 38th minute of the game. 

Although it may have been a bit early to react in such a way, the fan’s fears were ultimately realised as Napoli were knocked out of the Champions League.

Iker Casillas reaches Champions League milestone

Iker Casillas was in goal as Porto beat Galatasaray 3-2, and the experienced goalkeeper reached a significant milestone in the process. 

The 37-year-old achieved his 100th Champions League win, a feat only previously mustered by Cristiano Ronaldo.

The majority of Casillas’ successes came with Real Madrid, with whom he won the Champions League on three occasions.

Sergio Busquets makes his 100th Champions League appearance

It was also a significant night for Sergio Busquets, who made his 100th Champions League appearance as Barcelona drew with Tottenham.

Busquets entered the fray at the start of the second half as a replacement for Ivan Rakitic.

The midfielder has enjoyed much success during his Barcelona career, which has seen him match Casillas’ haul of three Champions League winners’ medals.

Novak Djokovic watches Red Star Belgrade lose against Paris Saint-Germain

Tennis star Novak Djokovic was in attendance as Red Star Belgrade took on Paris Saint-Germain.

Djokovic, an ardent Red Star Belgrade fan, watched on as the Serbian side were beaten 4-1.

Edinson Cavani gave PSG the lead before Neymar made it 2-0. 

Red Star reduced the deficit through Marko Gobeljic, but Marquinhos and Kylian Mbappe both scored as PSG ran out emphatic winners in the end.

Didier Drogba sees Monaco play Borussia Dortmund

Another famous face spotted at a Champions League game on Tuesday was Chelsea legend Didier Drogba.

The former Ivory Coast international, who recently announced his retirement from playing, watched Monaco against Borussia Dortmund.

Dortmund ran out 2-0 winners, with Raphael Guerreiro hitting a brace.

Benedikt Howedes makes emotional return to Schalke

Benedikt Howedes spent the vast majority of his career to date with Schalke, so returning to Gelsenkirchen was always going to be an emotional occasion for the defender.

Howedes played the whole game as Lokomotiv Moscow, whom he joined in the summer, lost 1-0 to Schalke.

The 30-year-old received a warm welcome from the Schalke supporters, with whom he has built up an excellent relationship.

Howedes joined Schalke as a youth player in 2000 and proceeded to make over 300 senior appearances for the club.
