Nationals’ Hellickson departs after injury

Washington Nationals right-hander Jeremy Hellickson departed Sunday’s game against the Atlanta Braves after four pitches due to an apparent hamstring injury.

Hellickson was en route to first base to cover the bag after a grounder by Atlanta’s Ozzie Albies and leaped for a throw from first baseman Mark Reynolds. He was unable to make the grab and immediately grabbed at his right hamstring.

The training staff attended to Hellickson before he was removed from the contest by manager Davey Martinez.

Right-hander Jefry Rodriguez, who was recalled earlier Sunday, replaced Hellickson. Rodriguez was 4-3 with a 3.88 ERA in 11 starts for Double-A Harrisburg.

Rodriguez was recalled because left-hander Tim Collins went on the paternity list.

Hellickson was 2-0 with a 2.30 ERA in eight starts entering the contest.
