A neighbourhood feud over access to a paid parking spot has left some suspecting they have been ‘scammed’ by double-charging property managers.

One resident has gone online to seek advice after receiving a succession of notes on his car from an angry neighbour telling him to stop using the parking spot he had paid for.

The man claimed to have received three notes in a week, despite no previous issue in his two years living at the property, during which he has always paid for the same parking spot.

‘I keep getting these letters on my car, they are correct – it is a paid parking spot, however I PAY FOR IT,’ he explained on Reddit, alongside an image of the note.

‘About a week or so ago someone started leaving these notes on my car. This is the third – and most threatening – note I have received in the last seven days.

‘It’s definitely the right spot, and I definitely pay for it.’

The ‘threatening’ note itself read: ‘Hey! This is a paid parking spot. Please don’t park here again or I will have to call a towing company. Thank you! Have a great day!’

Hundreds weighed in on the perplexing events, offering an explanation for what might lie behind the dispute.

‘I had this happen to me a few times before I finally caught the person doing it,’ one commenter wrote.

‘When I said “Yo, I pay for this spot”, they didn’t call me a liar or anything.

‘They just said “Me too!” That’s when we found out our property manager double sold the spot by accident; they put the wrong stall number on my neighbour’s lease.

‘Thankfully there was an available stall a few spots from mine so they changed the number on my neighbour’s lease and they got that one. Hopefully it’s just a misunderstanding.’

Judging by other comments, this is  not a unique mistake.

‘Exact same thing happened to me. Found the guy who was parking in my stall and he was very understanding. He had just moved in and I had that stall for over a year. We contacted the rental unit right away and it was fixed within an hour,’ another wrote.

Someone else urged the man to get in touch with his property manager – assuming he’s renting – or contact the company he pays for the parking spot.

‘Make sure they didn’t double lease the spot. Office people are humans and it does happen,’ one suggested.
