Last year most of us were perfectly content working from home in our luxe pajamas, DIY tie-dye and cozy sweatpants, but this year we need to step it up as we step out!

‘We saw a continuation of optimistic, rejuvenating, and colorful collections where designers really embraced this idea of dressing up again and moving forward with positivity, showcasing the bold, flamboyant, and desirable pieces that our customers have been craving to wear,’ said the market editor. THE “IT” BAG:

Handbags took a backseat for many women during the pandemic but in 2021-22 they are sure to reclaim their position as the best accessory to completely transform a look.

According to Libby, The Row’s Allie shoulder bag will be the hero piece this fall.

‘A true cult item, it has the perfect slouchy silhouette whilst remaining minimal and practical.’

YOUR MOST FASHIONABLE FOOT FORWARD:

As temperatures start to drop, we’ll be swapping out our open-toed sandals for something a little more practical.

But what styles should we be investing in?

‘We are seeing functional flat sandals, hard-working heels, not-so-basic boots, and modern mules as the standout trends for this season,’ revealed the expert.

If there was a time for a dose of fun, it’s now. Elevate your shoe game by stepping outside the box.

‘For fall, we are to see a great deal of pops of color, particularly in warmer shades of pink, orange and yellow.

‘Brands that are popular with our NET-A-PORTER customer include Amina Muaddi, Gucci, Maison Margiela, Stella McCartney, Saint Laurent, Aquazurra, Jimmy Choo, Alexander McQueen and Isabel Marant.’

FINE JEWELRY FOREVA:

A benefit of costume jewelry is that it can look fashionable without the high price tag.

But according to Libby, fine jewelry has been one of the trending categories on NET-A-PORTER over the last year.

‘Customers are looking for timeless, investment pieces, that they can “buy now and wear forever,” she explained.

‘Dainty, fine necklaces and bracelets that can be stacked and layered make for an effortless and classic look suitable for everyday wear.’

SWEATER WEATHER:

As you take inventory of your closet and make your fall shopping list, NET-A-PORTER’S market editor suggests novelty knitwear.

‘Whether it’s bright and bold or artisanal, it is the perfect fall go-to as we transition into those chillier months.’

THE AESTHETICS TO EMBRACE:

With most of us spending so much of the last year quarantined at home, there was very little to dress up for.

But now that we’re emerging from our living spaces and filling up our dance cards, it’s time to get glam.

According to Libby, the top three aesthetics to embrace this season are: Optimism & Opulence, Artisanal Eclecticism and Buy Now, Wear Forever.

Optimism & Opulence:

‘We saw a continuation of optimistic, rejuvenating, and colorful collections where designers really embraced this idea of dressing up again and moving forward with positivity, showcasing the bold, flamboyant, and desirable pieces that our customers have been craving to wear,’ said the editor.

Artisanal Eclecticism:

‘Pieces with rich textures, bold prints, detailed patchworking and applique have made their mark for fall where technique and craftmanship are truly being celebrated.’

Buy Now, Wear Forever:

‘Whilst there has been a general sense of a fresh start and a renewed energy for fashion, one thing which will remain are those investment pieces that will stand the test of time.’
