More than 1,000 netball players have joined in a minute’s silence in remembrance of an eight-year-old girl who died in a horrific car crash while on her way to a netball tournament.

Olivia Douglas and a male driver died when their vehicles fatally collided last Friday on the Bruce Highway near Childers, Queensland.

Tributes were posted online in memory of the young netballer.

‘Shine bright sweet girl, we had a ball being able to play with you for the past two years,’ one person wrote.

Players also wore black armbands in her honour, according to 7 News.

Her parents were travelling directly behind her when they witnessed their daughter’s death.

‘We offer our deepest condolences to the families involved, we cannot even begin to imagine what you might be going through at this very sad time,’ Coomera Netball Club said in a statement.

‘We as a club need to rally round and help these families through this very rough time right now’.

A GoFundMe page has been set up to help provide support for Olivia’s grieving family.
