Netflix director Ava DuVernay invites USA soccer star Megan Rapinoe after ‘F****** White House’ snub

After U.S. Soccer star Megan Rapinoe rebuked the idea of going to the ‘f****** White House’ she’s been invited to dinner by Ava DuVernay.

The acclaimed director of Netflix miniseries “When They See Us” extended an invitation to the 33-year-old midfielder.

In a tweet by DuVernay on Wednesday, she called the sportswoman ‘so bad-ass’  and told her she was ‘killing it on the field.’

Then offering to ‘humbly invite’ her to dinner ‘anytime’ and stated that until that day occurs, she would watch her being ‘cool and epic.’

DuVernay wrote: ‘Got folks mad cause you don’t wanna eat fast food at their house. Just keep shining.’

The tweet came in reference to Rapinoe rejecting the idea of a White House visit in an interview with Eight By Eight.

‘I’m not going to the f****** White House,’ she stated twice, before adding: ‘We’re not going to be invited.’

As well as referencing President Trump feeding football stars fast food in January.

Rapinoe had previously described herself as ‘walking protest’ to Yahoo Sports, when asked if she ‘felt odd’ knowing she was representing Trump and the White House while wearing her Team USA jersey.

In response to her comments about rejecting a future White House invitation, Trump tweeted that leagues and teams ‘love’ visiting.

He wrote: ‘Megan should never disrespect our Country, the White House, or our Flag, especially since so much has been done for her & the team.

‘Be proud of the Flag that you wear. The USA is doing GREAT!’

He added that ‘win or lose’ he would now be inviting the team anyway.

‘I am a big fan of the American Team, and Women’s Soccer, but Megan should WIN first before she TALKS! Finish the job!’

Rapinoe scored twice to help Team USA beat World Cup hosts France today to advance to the semi-finals against England.

Before the match, she once again refused to sing the national anthem.

In 2016, after leading the nation to win the World Cup the year before, she kneeled-the anthem in peace protest with NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick.

Rapinoe refused to stand, in a sign of allegiance with Kaepernick and other sports stars, who were protesting for racial equality.

At the time, Kaepernick told NFL Media: ‘I am not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses black people and people of color.’

Rapinoe, who came out as gay in 2012, told NBC Sports: ‘Being a gay American, I know what it means to look at the flag and not have it protect all of your liberties.’

She hoped her protest would ‘spark some meaningful conversation’ around the issue.

In Trump’s tweeted rebuke to the Rapinoe’s ‘White House scoff’ he added that he passed the Criminal Justice Reform and that black unemployment was at it’s ‘lowest in our country’s history.’

In the bizarre tirade, he also cited the NBA ‘refusing to call owners, owners’ which Huffington Post, believe refers to the word ‘owner’ being seen as a reference to slavery.

The spat, led fellow World cup teammate Ali Krieger to tweet that she would also refuse an invite to the White House.

Krieger wrote: ‘I know women who you cannot control or grope anger you, but I stand by & will sit this one out as well.

‘I don’t support this administration nor their fight against LGBTQ+ citizens, immigrants & our most vulnerable.’

In response to the comments, Rapinoe said she she stood by her comments on Thursday ‘with exception of the expletive.’

‘My mom will be very upset about that,’ she added.
