Network Ten confirms the premiere date for revamped Australian Survivor: Champions Versus Contenders

Channel Ten revealed its cast for Australian Survivor: Champions Versus Contenders last month.

And this week, the network announced the premiere date for the revamped reality show.

The fifth season, which will pit ‘top dogs against underdogs’ will debut on Wednesday August 1, 2018.

Another change this season will come with its location, with Ten confirming the competition will take place in Savusavu, Fiji.

The past two Survivor seasons have been filmed in Upolu,Samoa, while its other two seasons were conducted in South Australia and Vanuatu. 

Airing on Channel Ten and WIN, the program will pit 12 everyday ‘contenders’ against 12 ‘champions’ of Australian society.

In previews for the season, Survivor has credited an army veteran, former football players and Olympians with ‘champion’ status.

Of the ‘contenders’, FIFO workers, warehouse supervisors, sales representatives and stay-at-home mums have been announced as the ‘underdogs’ of the competition. 

The trailer has divided fans ahead of its premiere, with some claiming the inclusion of celebrities wasn’t needed.

‘Shame you’re casting D Grade celebs who likely have no idea how to play,’ one fan commented.

‘Two seasons in and already going for the gimmick-casting? All you need is interesting and competitive people, not celebrities,’ another Facebook user wrote.

‘RIP. So desperate for ratings you have to bring a whole tribe of celebrities into the show? Seriously? You obviously don’t respect this show or your viewers.’ 

The cast will spend up to 55 days in Fiji, with the hopes of taking home the $500,000 cash prize.
