New Miss Universe claims she wasn’t sure she ‘had the face’ to win because she was Asian

Francesca Hung, from Sydney, took out the prestigious Miss Universe Australia title on Thursday evening – proving wrong all the modelling agencies that doubted her.

The 24-year-old brunette beauty was emotional while being handed her stunning crown and a ticket to the international Miss Universe contest in the Philippines in November.

On Friday morning, however, Miss Hung revealed she was never really ‘in it to win it’.

‘Growing up and just seeing past winners like Jesinta Franklin and Jennifer Hawkins I thought those were the faces Australia was looking for. Being Eurasian I didn’t think that was me,’ she said in an appearance on The Morning Show.

Currently studying her masters degree in publishing, while also learning piano and perfecting the Italian language, the young model made a joke that she was the classic Chinese over-achiever.

While other beauty pageants like Miss America and Miss Teen USA had scrapped their swimwear sections, Miss Universe still includes it and Francesca stunned the judges in a white bikini.

‘It gives you a chance to show your confident and flirty side,’ she explained on the show.

Miss Hung, who has major modelling contracts with Westfield and Slate Swimwear, has a large online following, with more than 50,000 Instagram followers.

Interestingly her modelling career almost never was, PopSugar previously reported.

'I was actually turned away from every Sydney-based agency when I first tried to get into modelling,' she said
