New mom Shawn Johnson FINALLY reveals her daughter’s first name

Olympic gymnast Shawn Johnson has finally revealed the name of her one-week-old baby daughter: Drew Hazel East.

The 27-year-old and her husband, Andrew East, have kept the baby’s birth date and name a closely guarded secret since first announcing on Monday that they had welcomed their daughter into the world.

However on Friday, Shawn took to Instagram to reveal the name that they gave their first born, as well as her date of birth, while sharing a picture of the newborn with both of her parents kissing her cheeks.

‘Named after the most incredible person I know…her daddy,’ Shawn wrote when revealing the baby’s first name was Drew.

The newborn was born on October 29 weighting at 8lbs. 8oz., the gymnast’s post detailed.

It was decided early on into Shawn’s pregnancy that the couple would keep the gender of their child a surprise until birth, even for themselves.

But they could still have decided the name of the baby before giving birth because of its gender-neutral origin.

Andrew, 28, also shared the news of the baby’s name with his Instagram followers by posting an intimate video.

The video showed himself walking into the waiting room with his arms outstretched to announce the name and gender to the couple’s parents.

‘Never cried and laughed at the same time before but this day was full of it,’ he wrote in the caption of the video.

In the footage, he’s laughing and crying at the same time when revealing to the parents the ‘newest member’ of the family was a baby girl.

Everyone appeared overjoyed by the news, with each of the parents hugging Andrew before asking about the newborn’s name.

Shawn’s mom is then heard saying through tears, ‘That was my grandma’s name.’

The couple has scattered new information about their newborn throughout the week since first sharing images of the baby on Monday photographed by Teale Photography.

In a heartbreaking Instagram post shared Thursday, Shawn opened up about labor and feeling like she ‘failed’ because she was unable to give birth naturally to her daughter.

‘I went in with such a stubborn mindset of thinking the only way I could bring our baby into the world was naturally. No meds no intervention,’ she wrote in the post, which included a picture of herself holding her daughter in the hospital.

Shawn continued: ‘At 14 hours when I chose to get an epidural I felt guilty. At 22 hours when we were told I had to get a c section I felt like I had failed.’

The moment was turned sweet, though, for the new mom once she was able to hold her daughter in her arms for the first time.

‘But after holding our sweet girl in my arms and being told everything went well and she had made it to us safely I could have cared less,’ she wrote, adding: ‘My/our world no longer has anything to do with us but everything to do with her. It’s all for her and I will forever do anything for this girl that I love more than I ever could imagine. A love no one can ever prepare you for.’

Her post then turned into a loving message for Andrew, stating he would always be her ‘number one’.

‘But she will now forever be OUR number one together,’ Shawn wrote at the end of her post. ‘Thank you to the incredible doctors and nurses who brought our baby girl into the world safely and to the best husband/daddy in the world for being there every step of the way.’

The couple also shared the first part of their birthing vlog on their shared YouTube channel, revealing Shawn was scheduled to be induced on October 28 by her doctor.

At one point before leaving for the hospital the couple was filmed praying together on their sofa.

‘You’re going to freaking crush it, I’m not scared at all,’ Andrew said in the video when driving Shawn to the hospital.

They reserved a private room in the hospital with a private bathroom to give Shawn the optimal privacy when giving birth. But it proved to be a more difficult birth than expected.

In the video, it was revealed Shawn was having trouble dilating enough to give birth to the baby naturally. Then she finally got an epidural at hour 14 to handle the contraction pain.

‘I should be able to do it naturally,’ she told Andrew, obviously upset about requiring medication to get through the pain.

The birthing video was then cut short to show Shawn in the hospital bed at 22 hours of labor on October 29, with the couple hinting the second part for viewers was to come.

Shawn and her husband went dark on social media starting on October 31, but it appears they went silent not because the new mom was giving birth but because they were already enjoying quiet time with their newborn — as the baby girl was born on October 29.

It was then revealed on Monday in an Instagram post that they had a baby girl joining their family.

Posting a heartwarming family snap, Shawn wrote: ‘U are our everything. Welcome to the world baby girl.’

The couple’s baby excitement is particularly joyous after they revealed that Shawn had suffered a miscarriage in 2017.

In October of that year, they shared a video on YouTube in which Shawn showed off her positive pregnancy tests. But shortly after filming that segment, Shawn experienced bleeding and the pair went to the doctor.

Shawn learned she was miscarrying.

‘Somehow, I lost the pregnancy already. It sucks. It’s definitely no fun, guys,’ she said. ‘And having a doctor confirm that we miscarried doesn’t feel good. I’ve cried enough today, I don’t need to cry anymore.’

She told E! News this summer that being pregnant again was ‘a terrifying experience.’

‘Both of us, being athletes, we’re used to people saying, “Eat this, do that,” and you can fix it. With a baby, in a pregnancy, there’s really nothing you can do except wait. So for us, it was really scary and we kind of just leaned on each other to pray out way through it.’
