New South Wales records 12 new cases of coronavirus overnight – as the number of cases from an unknown source grows

New South Wales has recorded 12 new coronavirus cases, with just one infection in hotel quarantine.

NSW Health said one COVID-19 case reported on Wednesday was locally acquired with an unknown source, the fourth in just five days – with many more believed to be ‘under investigation’.

Of 10 infections linked to clusters, two cases are connected to the Thai Rock restaurant in Wetherill Park, in Sydney’s western suburbs, and six infections are associated to the funeral gatherings cluster.

Two additional positive tests are linked to the Apollo restaurant in Potts Point, causing fears the inner-city outbreak will continue to grow.

There are 113 active coronavirus cases in NSW and nine patients are receiving treatment in intensive care.

NSW Health said 22,087 tests were conducted over 24 hours, compared to 12,876 the previous day.

An alert has been issued for Kids Learning Academy in Busby, in Sydney’s south-west, after a confirmed coronavirus case visited the venue on July 29 while infectious.

The case is a child of a previously reported infection, linked to Mounties in Mount Pritchard.

Kids Learning Academy has been closed for deep cleaning and contact tracing is underway.
