New trend sees bride and grooms wedding tasks on Airtasker

When it comes to getting hitched, many brides and grooms will know that there is a lot to do – and often not enough hours to get them done in.

Between designing invitations, sorting DJs, choosing a cake and creating your own dream setup, it can feel as though you’re drowning in ‘wedmin’ – with no clear end until the honeymoon.

This is where Airtasker comes in.

The Sydney-born app – which helps you to outsource the small stuff and focus on the bigger picture – has seen a huge rise in Australian couples looking to outsource wedding tasks in recent months.

Sabrina Jacquier-Parr, 38, from Sydney (pictured with her partner), is a bride who used Airtasker to outsource various nuptial tasks for her wedding

What is Airtasker?

* Airtasker is an outsourcing app where users post details of jobs online and users bid to do them.

* Describe the task you need completed and whether you need it done in person or online. Post any task from cleaning to web design in just two minutes – for free! There’s no obligation to hire.

* View profiles and reviews to pick the best Airtasker Worker for the task.

* Between 2012 and 2016, Airtasker saw a 5456 per cent increase in listings in the wedding space.

* As of September 2017, there has been double the amount of wedding-related tasks listed than were seen last year.

She listed several tasks on the app, including ‘Film My Wedding’, which she put up for AUD $150, ‘Wedding Helper’ – which encompassed helping her to set the table with flowers and candles and was listed for $60 – and ‘Make My Wedding Place Card Holders’, which set her back $30.

‘I listed quite a few Airtaskers as I knew I didn’t want to spend $70,000 on my wedding like some of my friends,’ Ms Jacquier-Parr told Daily Mail Australia.

‘The wedding was amazing, and everyone who worked on it was fantastic. Rather than spending tonnes of money on a professional, listing tasks helped it to be more affordable,’ she added.

‘Normally, when you add “wedding” to anything you want for your ceremony or reception, it increases the price tenfold.

‘But by using Airtasker and other cost-cutting means, my whole wedding came in at just under $10,000 .’

So how did the thrifty bride do it?

First of all, Ms Jacquier-Parr said she employed both the help of her friends and family, and also turned to Airtasker to help her out with certain things.

‘We had the reception at The Winery restaurant in Surry Hills in Sydney,’ she said. ‘I listed, met with and talked to a young woman who helped me to set up the venue a few weeks before the big day.

‘I also knew I wanted someone to film our wedding, but didn’t want to fork out the required $3,000 on a wedding videographer.

‘So I listed it on Airtasker for $150, hired a professional photographer – and didn’t even meet him before the big day.

‘I knew he had a good eye and told him he could just give us the raw footage, as my dad wanted to edit it all.’

Meanwhile, a friend of the couple’s, photographer, Ranui Young, captured the photos.

Speaking about her tips for using Airtasker if you want to try out the app for your own wedding, Ms Jacquier-Parr said it's all about reading the reviews first (pictured: the happy couple)

Speaking about her tips for using Airtasker if you want to try out the app for your own wedding, Ms Jacquier-Parr said it’s all about the reviews:

‘When you post a task and someone gets in touch, have a look at their profile and their reviews,’ she said.

What Sabrina Jacquier-Parr listed on Airtasker

* Film My Wedding – $150

* Wedding Helper (helping her to set the table with flowers and candles) – $60

* Make My Wedding Place Card Holders – $30

‘If they’re in that arena, then they’re probably okay.’

The 38-year-old also said she probably wouldn’t list anything food-related – such as a wedding cake – as you never know what someone else’s kitchen or cooking is like and it can he hard to measure:

‘Airtasker is definitely the way to go if you want to economise,’ she said.

Ms Jacquier-Parr also took further cost-cutting measures by rocking up to her wedding in a Mercedes-Benz Uber Black, while her partner caught a Go Get car.

‘The whole thing was casual, but beautiful,’ she added. ‘You don’t need to do massive, extravagant things in order to pull off something special.’
