New Year’s Eve celebrations in style on Sydney harbour

When it comes to New Year’s Eve, Sydney has long been regarded as one of the best cities to party.

But while hundreds of thousands will pay nothing to cram around the harbour with a picnic, some are set to fork out thousands to party in style.

From six-course dinners with drinks, to ‘glamping’ on an island and even hiring multi-million dollar yachts, here are some of the most expensive ways to welcome in 2018.

Quay Restaurant, The Rocks – $1,650pp

A nice dinner on Sydney Harbour is expensive at the best of times, but on December 31 that price skyrockets.

For those without a budget, Quay Restaurant in The Rocks offers a six-course dinner with matched wines throughout and champagne as the fireworks erupt at midnight.

With a front row view of the harbour, the total package comes to $1650 per person.

‘Glamping’ at Cockatoo Island, Sydney harbour – $2,500

As crowds fight for spots around the shoreline, you could be watching the fireworks explode from front and centre.

Cockatoo Island on the harbour could be home for the night of celebrations, with a number of options for ‘glamping’.

Chief among them is a two-night stay under the stars from December 30 to January 1 for up to six people, coming at a cost of $2,500.

Luna Park, Sydney – $579pp

Keeping up with all the other party options, childhood dreamland Luna Park is made into a festival hub on New Year’s Eve.

Gone are the roller coasters and ghost trains, with the amusement park bringing in a host of DJs and artists to create something of a music festival.

Swapping fairy floss and corn dogs for fine dining and canapes, the experience and view of the enormous fireworks comes at a cost of up to $579 a ticket.

Sydney Opera House – $1,400pp

With one of the best views in the city it’s little wonder the cost of spending the night at the iconic building is high.

$1,400 is the price of just one ringside seat to the fireworks display and comes with a ticket to one of two gala shows, as well as dinner and drinks.

But unfortunately for those keen to get their hands on tickets, all have currently sold out.
