New York AG investigates Weinstein Company: media

Harvey Weinstein has so far denied all allegations of forcing himself on his accusers

New York’s state attorney general has opened a sweeping investigation into potential gender discrimination and civil rights violations at the Weinstein Company, US media reported Monday.

The inquiry comes with company co-founder and disgraced Hollywood mogul Harvey Weinstein a pariah over accusations from dozens of women about decades of alleged sexual harassment and assault.

“If sexual harassment or discrimination is pervasive at a company, we want to know,” the attorney general, Eric Schneiderman said in a statement quoted by The New York Times.

The newspaper said the attorney general’s civil rights bureau sent a subpoena on Monday to the company seeking a long list of documents, including personnel files and records showing complaints were handled.

Other US media also reported the inquiry. Schneiderman’s office did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

The 65-year-old, twice-married father of five has so far denied all allegations of forcing himself on his accusers.
