New York has loosened its drinking laws to allow fans to enjoy a beer during the Bills’ NFL London Game against the Jaguars on Sunday.
The game at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium begins at 9.30am ET, meaning bars and restaurants have to secure a special permit to serve alcohol before kickoff.
The deadline had already passed but New York governor Kathy Hochul has announced an extension: now bars and restaurants have until Friday to apply.
The permit will allow them to pour pints as early as 8am on Sunday morning.
‘With the Buffalo Bills playing across the pond on Sunday morning, I know fans will be gathering for the big game & may fancy a pint,’ Hochul wrote on social media on Wednesday.

‘I’m directing the State Liquor Authority to extend the deadline for special permits, so sports bars & restaurants can serve as early as 8 am.’
Hochul was born in Buffalo and is a big supporter of the Bills. As governor, she last year announced the deal to keep the Bills in New York State, with $850million of taxpayer money to be spent on the team’s new stadium.
Meanwhile, Sunday’s game is now the focus of the NFL’s acocunt on X – formerly Twitter – after the league came under fire over its coverage of Taylor Swift.
The league dismissed suggestions it is revelling in the success of the Kansas City Chiefs now Travis Kelce is dating the pop sensation, who was in the stands for their controversial victory over the New York Jets on Sunday.

Even Kelce believes the NFL is ‘overdoing’ the coverage of his new flame. NBC cut to the singer 17 times during Sunday’s game. ‘Damn, that’s crazy. That’s like once a drive,’ the tight end said.
Shortly after the climax of ‘Sunday Night Football’, the NFL’s official Instagram account read ‘chiefs are 2-0 as swifties’ – Kelce and Co have won both games she has attended since their romance became public.
Meanwhile, on X, the league’s bio was temporarily ‘NFL (Taylor’s Version)’ before it was changed to ‘we had the best day with you today’ – a reference to Swift’s song ‘The Best Day’.
‘We frequently change our bios and profile imagery based on what’s happening in and around our games, as well as culturally,’ the NFL told The New York Post.
