  • Isabel Ramirez-Cohetero, 51, and her 50-year-old husband had been washing their Jeep Commander at a Queens BP gas station on Saturday 
  • They moved their SUV in an effort to dry the vehicle when Cohetero’s husband realized that he had left the car in reverse 
  • He rushed to the wheel in an effort to stop the Jeep but instead of stepping on the brake, the man stepped on the gas and barreled over his wife
  • The unconscious woman was rushed to the Wyckoff Heights Medical Center with body trauma but she was pronounced dead 
  • No arrest have been made and an investigation into the incident is ongoing 

A New York man accidentally ran over and killed his wife just moments after the couple had finished washing their vehicle on Saturday. 

Isabel Ramirez-Cohetero, 51, and her 50-year-old husband had been washing their Jeep Commander at a BP gas station on Eliot Avenue in Fresh Ponds, Queens, at roughly 12.15pm. 

The Ridgewood couple had moved their SUV in an effort to dry the vehicle when Cohetero’s husband realized that he had left the car in reverse, the New York Post reports.

He rushed to the wheel in an effort to stop the Jeep but instead of stepping on the brake, the man stepped on the gas and barreled over his wife. 

The unconscious woman was rushed to the Wyckoff Heights Medical Center with body trauma but she was pronounced dead. 

‘A man ran inside crying “My wife, my wife, my wife in serious condition. Call the ambulance.” He kept on repeating ambulance, ambulance,’ said 51-year-old Firoz Khan, an attendant at the BP.

He added: ‘I went outside and I saw the lady laying on the ground on her back. Her head was to the [fence] and her feet were towards [the store]. I saw them putting her on the stretcher…she was not moving.

‘This is sad. I feel sorry for the husband. He was crying, he was upset.’ 

Family members shared that they are devastated by the incident and added that they are doing their best to support the woman’s husband.

The couple’s son said that the father was ‘still crying’ and struggled to talk. 

A man who identified himself as the victim’s brother said: ‘It’s in the family, that’s why we don’t want to talk about it. It was an accident. Nobody is wrong.
