New York tops list as most beauty-obsessed state in America with California coming in second

New York is the most beauty-obsessed state in America, according to a new study carried out by StyleCraze.

After examining Google Trends data, StyleCraze found that New Yorkers search terms like ‘skincare’, ‘makeup’ and ‘hair care’ significantly more than residents in other states.

The study also found that Alaska, Montana and Vermont are least interested in the topic.

After examining Google search terms over the last 12 months associated with beauty, New York came out on top.

In addition to searching ‘skincare and ‘haircare’ more than anyone else, New Yorkers search ‘makeup’ the most. In joint second place are Nevada and Kentucky, followed by Texas.

A spokesperson for StyleCraze commented on the finding, saying ‘Renowned as one of the most glamorous destinations worldwide, it is easy to see why New York takes the crown as the most beauty-obsessed state in the country, especially as the state is surrounded with an increasing influencer culture.’

California is the number 2 most beauty-obsessed state.

The Golden State has the second-highest proportion of its population searching the word ‘skincare’ and ‘salon.’

Their high scoring could have something to do with Hollywood’s obsession with looks and youth.

Hawaii places third behind New York and California for most obsessed with skincare, despite ranking as the tenth state least interested in beauty overall.

This could be attributed to their increased exposure to the sun or popular Hawaii-based YouTuber Hyram Yarbro.

California residents search for ‘spa’ the fourth most in the country.

Which is not surprising, as the coastal state is a spa lover’s paradise with more resort spa options than any other state.

Florida ranks as the third most beauty-obsessed state in the country, trailed by Idaho, Mississippi and Georgia.

The Sunshine State has the third-highest proportion of its population searching for the word ‘spa’ in the country and ‘salon’ the fifth most.

‘Body care’ is also a significantly high search for Floridians. Anyone who has visited Miami Beach can attest to its importance.

The study found that Idaho ranks as the fourth most beauty-obsessed state.

Known for its outdoor recreation and scenic beauty, it’s no surprise that Idahoans  are specifically interested in self-care.

Idaho has the highest level of searches for ‘salon’ and the second-highest level of searches for ‘spa,’ perhaps the best place to go after a long hike.

According to the data pulled, Rhode Island – the smallest US state – ranked 10th in overall beauty interest, but first for nail obsessed.

Maine, North Dakota, New Hampshire, Pennsylvania, Wyoming, Indiana and Hawaii appear to not fall prey to beauty standards or trends.

They are all apart of the top 10 least beauty obsessed states in America.

The study found that Montana is the second-least interested in beauty, followed by Vermont.

And the 49th state, Alaska, took the number 1 spot for least beauty-obsessed state.

With it’s glaciers, Northern lights, national parks and vast wilderness, who has time for cosmetics?
