New Zealand fan left with awkward All Blacks Rugby World Cup champions tattoo

Tat’s embarrassing!: New Zealand fan is left with awkward tattoo after getting the World Cup trophy depicting All Blacks as 2019 champions inked on his calf BEFORE the game which they subsequently lost

One New Zealand rugby fan has been left with egg on his face after getting a tattoo prior to the Rugby World Cup semi-final against England that has now aged very poorly.

Shaun Pollard got a tattoo of the Webb Ellis Cup on his calf showing off the years that New Zealand have won the World Cup, 1987, 2011, and 2015.

However, he also had 2019 tattooed on the trophy, which is no longer possible after England put in a dominant performance to knock them out at the semi-final stage.

‘I’m backing them 100 per cent like I always have … If you’re a loyal fan, you believe they’re going to win. If you doubt yourself, you’re not going to win, are you’, he told the New Zealand Herald before the match.

When asked what he would do if New Zealand didn’t win the World Cup, he said: ‘I honestly haven’t thought about it, I don’t plan on [the team] losing. You think positive, you win.’

Unfortunately for him, he now has a lasting record of his mistake and New Zealand’s disappointment.

Pollard is apparently ‘rugby crazy,’ and is always watching the team while wearing a jersey.

‘This tattoo turned out to be quite an expensive one!’ One amused rugby fan wrote on Twitter.

Daniel Leo, who played for Samoa, also commented: ‘I’d imagine this guy must be feeling pretty nervous about now,’ as it appeared New Zealand were about to lose the match.

England came out as 19-7 winners on Saturday in Japan, taking over the match and emerging victorious despite two disallowed tries.

One of their tries did count though, scored by Manu Tuilagi, and George Ford took over kicking duties to put four between the posts.

Ardie Savea pounced on a wayward line-out to score for New Zealand, but they were their only points of the match.
