New Zealand father wins $9.3M Powerball jackpot

A father who bought a lotto ticket on a whim received the shock of his life when he won the $9.3 million Powerball jackpot over the weekend.

The man, who did not want to be identified, was amazed when he saw the words ‘major prize winner’ on the Lotto NZ app.

His children knew something was up when he started ‘shaking’, the NZ Herald reported.  

But before seeing how much he had won, the man asked his children what they would do if they won lotto.

‘They rattled off a whole bunch of things – buy a house, buy a puppy, visit family and go on a holiday,’ he told the publication. 

‘It was fun just dreaming of all the things we could do.’   

He bought his lucky ticket at the Chartwell Lotto in Hamilton, New Zealand.

He now plans to use the win to tick off some of the items his children listed, including a puppy and a house.  

‘This win means so much for me and my family – it’s going to make such a huge difference to our lives.
