A newborn baby girl was found dead in a pub toilet while patrons were having their Sunday lunch, with police now urgently searching for her mother.
The tiny body was discovered at the Three Horse Shoes in Oulton near Leeds at 4.45pm while the pub was said to have been busy with customers for its carvery.
West Yorkshire Police today appealed for the mother of the baby to step forward or seek medical help and said detectives were investigating the ‘tragic’ incident.
The baby was confirmed as deceased by paramedics at the scene, and officers said their ‘main priority remains the mother’s welfare and safety’.

Detective Chief Inspector James Entwistle from West Yorkshire Police’s major enquiry team said this morning: ‘This is a tragic incident and we are urgently appealing for the mother of the baby girl to contact us or seek medical help as she has been through an extremely traumatic ordeal and could well need treatment herself.
‘If the mother is comfortable speaking to the police then she can do so by calling 101 or she can use LiveChat online to talk to us remotely.
‘If she doesn’t want to speak to the police, she can contact the Leeds Maternity Assessment Unit on 0113 3926731.
‘Our enquiries into the incident remain ongoing today with NHS partners but our main priority remains the mother’s welfare and safety.’
The pub last night apologised to customers on Facebook. A post read: ‘I’ve been writing post after post for the past hour but I don’t think right now is the best time given the circumstances.

The pub last night apologised to customers on Facebook following the incident
‘We’re sure there’s speculation of something that happened at our establishment this evening. All I can say at the minute is I’m sorry to everyone that was in with us during the time this happened and to all that was due to come in and couldn’t.
‘A massive thank you to those that helped us whilst we were struggling as a team it really doesn’t go unappreciated. Lots of love, Team Three Horse Shoes.’
Staff were said to have been ‘visibly upset’ by the discovery but continued to work in ‘clearly distressing circumstances’.
Lee Connor told the pub’s staff on Facebook: ‘You were absolutely amazing and everyone understands that you will need time to process and be with your friends and family to offload what was a nightmare of a situation.’
And Nicole Connor commented: ‘The staff all did amazing to somehow manage the toughest situation they could face without causing alarm and panic amongst the customers, which isn’t an easy feat given the situation.’
