Newcastle ‘close in on signing Marc Guehi in a deal worth in excess of £60m’ after the Crystal Palace defender starred in England’s run to the Euro 2024 final

  • Newcastle are reportedly on course to sign Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace
  • Talks are ongoing as part of a deal that could be worth in excess of £60million
  • 24-year-old made 25 Premier League appearances for The Eagles last season

Newcastle are reportedly in advanced talks to sign Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi.

Guehi was a consistently strong performer in a Palace side that looked to be in danger of a relegation battle last season before Oliver Glasner’s arrival at the club.

The 24-year-old captained the side on occasion and recovered from a knee injury that curtailed much of the latter part of his campaign to be named in Gareth Southgate’s side for Euro 2024.

After an injury saw Harry Maguire miss out on England’s final 26-man squad, Guehi established himself as the preferred partner for John Stones and was key component as England reached the final.

According to a report from The Telegraph, Guehi’s future may well be away from Selhurst Park with Newcastle close to finalising a deal said to be worth in excess of £60m.

Personal terms are reportedly net set to prove to be a problem in the deal getting over the line, with Guehi said to be keen on joining Eddie Howe’s side this summer.

It is understood that talks are progressing with confirmation believed to be on course for later this week.

The move for Guehi serves as a statement of intent from the Magpies after Howe cast doubt over his future at the club following a major overhaul of the club’s backroom staff.
