Newcastle: Eddie Howe’s defence set to be bolstered with £13m arrival of Brighton’s Dan Burn

Newcastle’s defence is set to be bolstered with the £13m arrival of Brighton’s Dan Burn, after Eddie Howe snapped up Bruno Guimaraes from Lyon

  • Dan Burn will return to his hometown club of Newcastle United for a fee of £13m
  • The 29-year-old is travelling to Tyneside to undergo a medical ahead of the move
  • The goalkeeper is set to move having grown unhappy at Manchester United

Newcastle have agreed a package of around £13million with Brighton for defender Dan Burn.

The 29-year-old is yet to agree personal terms but is keen to reach a quick agreement, ahead of an expected move to his boyhood club.

Eddie Howe has been pushing for Burn since last weekend and Brighton have now accepted an offer of £11m plus £2 add-ons after two bids were rejected.

Centre back has been a priority position for the Magpies this month and they have failed to land top targets Sven Botman, of Lille, and Sevilla’s Diego Carlos.

However, Burn is seen as a player of proven top-flight pedigree and has been part of a system under Graham Potter at Brighton – defenders playing from the back – that Howe would like to implement on Tyneside.

Burn was part of Newcastle’s academy as a youngster before making his professional debut at Darlington.

He joined Brighton in 2018 from Wigan and has since made 85 Premier League appearances for the Seagulls.
