Newsreader Tim Willcox has quietly married a political expert after having a passionate affair with fellow BBC presenter Sophie Long.

Mr Willcox, 56, has wedded Najah al-Otaibi, who often appears on BBC news programmes in her role as an analyst specialising in Middle Eastern affairs.

A source close to Mr Willcox said: ‘Tim is very happy and has been gushing about Najah to his colleagues.’

Ms al-Otaibi has been a senior analyst at a Washington-based think-tank but met Willcox while she was based in London.

The couple posed for photographers at Royal Ascot earlier this year.

They have been affected by this week’s British Airways IT failures, which turned their trip to the French Riviera into a 20-hour ‘nightmare’.

Mr Willcox said passengers were left ‘seething’ after their flight to Nice was cancelled.

He added: ‘I can’t afford to spend £1,000 on two flights.’

The couple eventually arrived after catching a flight to Paris.

Mr Willcox has declined to discuss his marriage to Ms al-Otaibi, after he faced a backlash following his affair with Ms Long.

He was at 43-year-old Ms Long’s wedding to yacht company sales director Will Green in Cornwall in 2010.

A former member of the British Youth Orchestra, Mr Willcox even took his trumpet to serenade the happy couple.

But his working relationship with Ms Long turned into a romance and she left Mr Green two years later.

Mr Willcox told his wife of 17 years, Sarah, the mother of his four children, that he had fallen for Ms Long.

Yet he and Ms Long later split up and he became romantically involved with another blonde, Tessa Hardy, the estranged wife of telecoms multi-millionaire Warren Hardy.
