Neymar and Edinson Cavani have a great relationship at PSG

Edinson Cavani has reiterated that he and fellow Paris Saint-Germain strike partner Neymar get on well – despite their apparent on-pitch squabbles this season.

A clash of egos and authority appeared to have surfaced between the two following Neymar’s world-record £198m move from Barcelona this summer.

This came to a head in September when PSG were awarded a penalty against Lyon and the pair had a very public disagreement as to who should take it.

After much arguing, Cavani stepped up to take it but subsequently missed – with L’Equipe reporting at the time that he and Neymar had to be separated by team-mates in the changing room after the match.

A similar incident happened last month against Troyes as well with Cavani taking the reins but missed once again.

However, speaking about his relationship with Neymar – Cavani is adamant that there is no bad blood between them.

‘We have a great relationship,’ the Uruguayan told the Daily Telegraph.

‘We are very professional and our goal is teamwork and the club.

‘Everyone was really happy when he [Neymar] signed because he’s such a great player and so it was a good thing for the club, for the team. It was incredibly exciting for all of us.

‘The problem is that many people are not given the correct information and there is a lot of misunderstanding.

‘People keep asking over and over again about the same situation.’

PSG boss Unai Emery will be hoping his two forwards can link-up to devastating effect again after their winter break.
