Jim Kelly’s daughter shared a video of the NFL Hall of Fame quarterback taking his first steps after recovering from major surgery to remove jaw cancer.

The 58-year-old retired Buffalo Bills football player had to have jaw reconstruction surgery to remove cancerous tumors and lymph nodes on Wednesday.

Surgeons in New York City used parts of Kelly’s fibula to reconstruct the bone in the upper part of his jaw.

Kelly’s daughter, Erin, posted a video on Sunday to celebrate her dad taking his first steps with a walker since surgery.

‘Happy Easter!!! He is Risen!!! And on the day Jesus rose… my dad also stood and took his first steps since surgery!’ Erin said in her post. ‘God is good!! Please continue to pray!’

She also shared a picture of a message her dad wrote on dry-erase board.

The message said: ‘Happy Easter to Everyone. Thanks for (the) prayers. Love you all.’

Kelly underwent a grueling 12-hour surgery to remove his cancer and a portion of his palate that has caused him extreme discomfort for over three years.

He had a similar form of the disease removed from his upper jaw in 2015, but a recurrence in the cancer was detected after he had a biopsy earlier this year, the Buffalo News reported.

Surgeons removed the cancer at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City.

They used bone from the fibula because it is a non-weight-bearing bone so it would not greatly impact Kelly’s walking.

The 58-year-old is now expected to be attached to a feeding tube and tracheostomy tube for two weeks after his surgery as his jaw recovers.

Kelly played for the Buffalo Bills for 11 seasons before retiring in 1996 and was inducted into the NFL Hall of Fame in 2002.
