Matt Buschmann, the bullpen coach for the Toronto Blue Jays, might be having an awkward conversation with his wife after Wednesday’s game against the New York Yankees.

Buschmann caught Aaron Judge’s historic 61st home run this season in the Jays’ bullpen, conceivably earning a small fortune by hauling in the valuable souvenir.

His is wife, NFL Network announcer Sara Walsh, immediately celebrated on Twitter with a screenshot of her husband’s name appearing in her feed.

‘Bad news is I’m down here in Florida battling a hurricane, but the good news is I can announce my retirement….’ Walsh joked.

But the sentiment didn’t last too long, as she soon found out Buschmann handed the ball back over to the Yankees, so that Judge could keep it as a memento.

Tweeting a screen shot of the moment itself, Walsh said: ‘Oh cool. He just handed that back without checking to see if our house is still here? I’d next like to announce our divorce.’

Walsh then put a more considered but equally humorous take on her Instagram story, saying: ‘I’m in my childhood bedroom, as evidenced by the horse pictures that are still up. I’ve wanted a horse since I was two, it hasn’t happened yet

‘I heard Matt caught Aaron Judge’s home run ball tonight and I don’t know, maybe you could have bought me a horse with that ball.

‘But knowing Matt, he just handed the ball back over. Or just check if our house is still standing, that we had to evacuate, before you hand it back over!

‘I’m kidding – the funniest part is that everyone has been so nice and checking on us. I had about eight million texts about the hurricane and as soon as that ball got caught, nobody is texting about the hurricane and everyone is telling at me about the ball!

Anyway, it was a funny moment in a funny night in what has been a not fun week down here in Florida.’

She later tweeted again, saying: ‘Just a reporter doing work here… per my sources… Matt Buschmann wasn’t forced to give the ball back but he handed it over to Zack Britton.

‘Busch told me: ‘The Judge and Maris family have been flying all over the country. They deserve to have that ball.’

It was a whirlwind for Judge in the immediate aftermath of the game with everyone wanting their five minutes with him.

He faced the media soon after and while he knew he had hit the ball in the Blue Jays bullpen, he wasn’t yet aware of how the ball was retrieved.

‘Thankfully I hit it into the Blue Jays bullpen and thankfully, from what I hear one of the guys handed it over,’ Judge said. ‘I got to find him and say thank you.’
