A rookie NFL linebacker became the league’s latest player involved in a domestic violence controversy earlier this week after news broke about his recent arrest following a troubling incident with his girlfriend.

Buffalo Bills signee Tyrel Dodson, 20, was taken into custody in Scottsdale, Arizona on May 25 on charges of misdemeanor assault, criminal damage and disorderly conduct.

TMZ Sports released disturbing audio Wednesday of the 911 call Dodson’s unnamed girlfriend made from her apartment two weeks ago after she said he came home drunk from a night club and physically assaulted her during an argument.

‘My boyfriend, like, he just hurt me and he left, but he stole my keys and he stole all my money out of my safe and out of my wallet!’ the alleged victim said while crying hysterically. ‘He was hitting me, he broke my door… Uh! Oh my God!’

Dodson’s girlfriend told police he threw up on her carpet after they returned to her home that evening. She said she told him to sit down while she tried to clean up the mess, but he objected to her tone and pinned her to a wall.

‘I hit him to try to get him off of me. [Then] he hit me, like, across my face and he was just like, “I’m sorry. I’ve never hit somebody. I would never do that,”‘ she said during the call.

‘And then, like, I was just trying to tell him to leave and he wouldn’t stop touching me, so I was just saying, “Please stop touching me while I handle this,” and he wouldn’t stop.’

The alleged victim said her neighbors came over saying they wanted to call the police, but she told them not to. Afterwards, she said Dodson locked her in the apartment and blocked her from leaving out the front door.

When she hid in the bathroom and locked the door, she said he burst in anyway, knocking the door into her head.

She said she managed to escape onto her patio and leave the apartment before calling a friend to pick her up near a local gas station. But when she returned to her home, she said Dodson was gone.

So were her keys and at least $10,000 she had locked in her safe, she said.

The alleged victim declined medical assistance at the scene and told police she wasn’t sure if she wanted to press charges.

Dodson was released from the city’s jail on May 26.

AZ Central reports he denied assaulting his girlfriend or damaging her apartment, saying they’d only argued verbally after she found messages on his phone from one of his female friends, which made her angry, a police report indicated.

Dodson admitted taking money, but told police it was only $1,000 from the counter that he and his girlfriend had shared, adding that he planned to return the funds later.

The Buffalo Bills issued the following statement shortly after his arrest: ‘We are aware of the incident involving Tyrel Dodson last weekend. We have been looking further into the matter and will continue to gather information as the legal process continues,’ the statement read, according to TMZ Sports.

Dodson signed with the Bills in May after going undrafted in April. His attorney filed a continuance Friday. He’s due back in court on July 18.
